Alum Tasha Talbot shared this story with us:
"Floating out in the East China Sea, day 20-something of a forward-deployed Naval vessel schedule. We were particularly on edge with Chinese surveillance vessels and a warship shadowing us.
I sit down for chow in the wardroom and notice the Lieutenant across from me has a last name of Fleming.
Immediately I ask, "Are you a fellow dragon slayer?"
Everyone at the table looks awkwardly at the unqualified Ensign (me). And the reaction at the table is even better when LT Fleming replies, "Yes, in fact, I am."
Needless to say, we had a great conversation as I learned that he was part of a staff that happened to be aboard my ship for a week. He gave me a book before he left.
Best of all, an officer who overheard one of our conversations but didn't know that LT Fleming and I had a connection through the program, told me, "Who does that guy think he is just giving you leadership advice. You don't even know him!" I replied, "Oh, we know each other."
