Matthew SHoger

2016 John Jay Fellow

Matt Shoger grew up in Derby, Kansas in a strong Christian home. His walk with Christ began at a young age. Matt believes that God gave him the talents that he has for a reason, and he desires to develop those talents so they can be used to help make Christ known in this world.

Matt is a computer engineer, a law student, and an aspiring science-fiction writer. Matt developed medical software for two years as a software engineer after receiving his bachelor’s degree. Seeking to combine the logical abilities from his computer engineering pursuits with the deeper philosophical passions of his heart, Matt began studying at Washburn University School of Law in the fall of 2014. He is taking a semester off from law school to participate in the John Jay Fellows Program.

As a John Jay Fellow, Matt hopes to grow in his understanding of the connections between his faith, the law, and public policy, so that he can more truly engage with and inspire the culture for the sake of Christ—whether through example, through conversation, through art, or through politics.
