As the Rev. Dr. Peter Leithart reminded us in his lecture before the gala, politics is downstream from culture—and John Jay Fellows have the perspective to help build a rich culture in both church and community. Sitting a few tables away from Dr. Leithart at the gala was current fellow Joel Carkson ’15, a masterful music composer who comes to the Institute from the film industry in Los Angeles. In addition to his nationally recognized film scores and orchestrations, Joel is collaborating with other John Jay fellows to build the infrastructure for a revival of great religious music to the glory of God and the formation of the next generations of the church.
