Hometown: Lake Leelanau, MI
College: Hillsdale College
Degree: B.A. English

Anna Timmis graduated from Hillsdale College in 2019, with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in journalism. While a student at Hillsdale, Anna participated in the Dow Journalism program. She reported and wrote for the Collegian, Hillsdale’s student newspaper, all four years of college, and edited for the culture page her junior and senior years.

During the Summer of 2017, Anna participated in the National Journalism Center’s internship program. The following summer, she completed NJC's advance placement  internship in Santa Barbara, CA. Her favorite part of the internship was reporting on local events, which provided a window into community life.

After graduation, Anna taught elementary school last year at a charter school in Austin, TX. There, she witnessed what she believes to be technology’s negative effects on students’ ability to learn. The experience also reaffirmed the importance of educating according to the differences of each individual student.

After John Jay, Anna hopes to pursue a career in journalism, providing commentary on current cultural issues including the restoration of local community life and technology’s impact on education. She loves reading fiction, singing, and hospitality.
