Degree: B.A. History, Minor in Political Science; M.A. History

In 2018, Steven Carter graduated from Bemidji State University magna cum laude with a B.A. in History and a minor in Political Science. During his time at BSU, Steven was recognized on the President’s Honor Roll, Dean’s List, and received the President’s Citation. He was also awarded with the two highest scholarships of the History Department. For part of his final semester, Steven studied at the University of Oxford. The study-abroad experience inspired him to continue pursuing his passion for medieval history.

In the Fall of 2020, Steven graduated with a Master of Arts in History from the University of Idaho. His master’s thesis explored the notion of national unity and common cause among the English political community during the reign of Edward III in the fourteenth century. At the University of Idaho, Steven was awarded with four assistantships, which led him to lecture multiple times for courses covering World History and Hellenistic Greece.

As a proponent of the humanities, Steven has sought to regularly emphasize the inescapable overlap among matters of political, cultural, social, religious, and economic history.

Outside of the academic scene, Steven has grown to have a deep appreciation for agriculture and local and family community. For over ten years, Steven has worked as a member of a third generation of an award-winning, diversified family farm.

After his time at John Jay, Steven plans to seek ways to help preserve and cultivate the family farm and its legacy in the local area while deepening his knowledge of Latin. In the near future, Steven intends to pursue a doctoral degree in History with a continued focus on medieval England. With this in mind, Steven strives to devote his life to God’s kingdom and to the pursuit of a virtuous life for the glory of God.
