Brigid Flaherty
2017 John Jay Fellow
Hometown: Warwick, Rhode Island
College: Providence College
Degree: B.A. History, B.A. Philosophy
Brigid Flaherty graduated magna cum laude from Providence College in 2016 with a BA in History and Philosophy. An active member of the Providence College community, she served as an Orientation Leader, the Chair of the Student Alumni Association’s Legacy Committee, a member of the Student Advisory Committee for Academic Affairs, the Student Coordinator for Campus Ministry’s International Immersions program to Guatemala, and as a retreat leader and director for Campus Ministry’s freshman retreat. Her continued commitment to cultivating community in a faith-based environment earned Brigid a job with the Office of Institutional Advancement at Providence where she has been working since graduation.
Her collegiate experience strengthened her desire to grow intellectually and spiritually through the study and discussion of the Great Books. Brigid sees the John Jay Fellows program as a natural step on her path to further her education in political theory through continued reading and conversation. She desires to further explore political philosophy in literature and in the ordinary activity of daily life, and to trace the continuance of political ideas in culture and society.
