Alyssa Zak
Spring 2022 John Jay Fellow
Hometown: Castle Rock, Colorado
College: Colorado Christian University
Degree: B.A. Politics
Alyssa Zak, a Colorado native, grew up just south of Denver in Castle Rock. She was homeschooled through 5th grade and went on to attend charter schools for middle and high school. This upbringing has given her a deep appreciation for the benefits of school choice. She graduated with a B.A. in politics from Colorado Christian University in the Spring of 2021. As an undergraduate, she took several trips to Washington D.C., including getting to tour the Capitol and the White House.
Alyssa also lived in Washington, D.C. for a summer while participating in The Fund for American Studies program. During her time in this program, she interned with the Center for Education Reform, engaging with the D.C. community in matters of school choice.
Since graduating, Alyssa made it a priority to take time off to work and save money before applying for a graduate program studying political philosophy. She thinks that the John Jay Fellowship will be a great opportunity to prepare for graduate school. After completing her degree, she would like to teach or enter the missions field.
