Sarah Bross
Spring 2025 John Jay Fellow
Hometown: Guthrie, OK
College: Oklahoma Baptist University
Degree: B.A. in Politics, Minor in History
Sarah Bross was born and raised in Guthrie, OK close to her extended family. She and her two younger brothers were homeschooled K-12 by their mother on the family farm, learning to care for livestock and cultivate their land. Her homeschool education was in the classical style, studying Latin, mathematics, history, philosophy, writing, and literature from the ancient world through the present age.
Sarah was awarded the Dr. J.T. Allen full-tuition scholarship to Oklahoma Baptist University that covered the cost of her education through her bachelor’s degree. Originally double-majoring in History and Political Science, Sarah discovered her true passion when the school’s Political Science degree was changed to the Politics degree, which focused on political theory, philosophy, and theology, and became a full-fledged Politics major.
While on campus, Sarah was an active member of the Honors Program, being a founding member of the Honors Council and eventually rising to President of that organization, coordinating events, recruitment, and professor-student relations in order to draw together the Honors body. She was also a mentor and coordinator at the Student Success Center on campus, which focuses on helping students with their assignments and difficult concepts so they have the best chance possible to succeed in their endeavors.
Sarah graduated in the spring of 2024 Summa Cum Laude, with Honors, and the distinction of President’s Honor Roll for all eight of her semesters at OBU. She was awarded the Scales Prize in American Constitutional Law for being the most advanced student of constitutional law and government, judged most faithful to the standards of scholarship and most diligent in the study of the U.S. Constitution. Since graduation, she has rested from the rigors of academic life, working as a catering assistant for a company in her hometown and enjoying the newness of commercial baking and cooking.
One of Sarah’s top goals is to be a published author in the next five years, and to that end she has been writing articles and researching for a book focused on the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment—her especial passion. She hopes the curriculum of John Jay will help her toward her end, and possibly aid her in continuing her education after completion of the program.
