Hometown: Bevier, MO
College: University of Missouri – Columbia
Degree: B.A. History and Political Science

Chloe Shoemaker describes her upbringing as All-American for having grown up in a rural community, a small business family, starring in her school’s musicals, and hunting in the Missouri countryside. As a result of these experiences, she learned to embrace American values like hard work, entrepreneurship, family, freedom, and patriotism from a young age. They inspired her to study history and political science at the University of Missouri - Columbia so she could have a career where she was able to pass them on to the next generation. In May 2021, she graduated magna cum laude and with departmental honors in history for her senior thesis about the Johnson County War, as well as with minors in American Constitutional Democracy and Spanish.

Outside the classroom, Chloe was active in many organizations at Mizzou. She served in student government as a senator where she sat on the Academic Affairs Committee and the Chancellor’s Standing Committee on Student Conduct. Additionally, she was a first soprano in the Mizzou Women’s Concert Chorale Ensemble and a member of Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity. Chloe devoted most of her time to Mizzou College Republicans where she served as Secretary and later Vice-President. During winter break of her sophomore year, she was able to travel to Israel with Passages to learn more about Biblical history.

Chloe has also the opportunity to intern in the Missouri Senate, the Supreme Court of Missouri Library, U.S. House of Representatives, and the White House National Economic Council. Most recently, Chloe was a part of the inaugural class of the Heritage Foundation’s The Academy where she along with other fellows drafted a policy proposal focused on foster care reform for special needs children. Because of her participation in the online program, she had the opportunity to sing the national anthem for their 2020 Virtual Member’s Summit.

Following her time at John Jay, Chloe intends to fulfill God’s command to seek justice, defend the oppressed, and be a voice for the voiceless in the field of law. Although she is open to wherever God leads her for this task, she hopes to combine this with her love for children she discovered years ago as a lifeguard and in children’s ministries by advocating for them in human rights law.

Outside of work and academics, Chloe adores cooking, fashion, playing the piano, the great outdoors, and sipping a coffee while reading a good book.
