Sophia Charron

Fall 2023 John Jay Fellow

Hometown: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
College: Franciscan University of Steubenville
Degree: B.A. in Philosophy

Sophia Charron comes to the John Jay Institute from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Franciscan University of Steubenville located in nearby Steubenville, Ohio. She graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy and a special interest in Political Philosophy. Before John Jay, she worked for the Hildebrand Project in Steubenville, Ohio and for the Ukrainian Catholic University Foundation in development, promoting Ukraine's foremost institution of higher education.

During her time at Franciscan, Sophia was president of the Veritas Society and began her group's partnership with ISI. As the leader of the largest club on campus she brought speakers and guests to campus to promote a Christ-centered academic culture among the student body. Those four years saw unprecedented engagement with students through two inter-collegiate conferences, institutionalized campus parliamentary debates and the most widely read campus publication.

This passion for starting and supporting institutions is clear on and off campus. Throughout university, Sophia has worked as the programs administrator and development associate for Kobzarska Sich Bandura and Vocal Programs, promoting Ukraine's national instrument and its traditions. Seeing the non-profit through an influx of students and changes in leadership, Sophia remains a steadfast supporter of Ukrainian culture and arts.

Deeply committed to institutions of and for faith, Sophia hopes to one day use her experience at the John Jay Institute to join efforts in Ukraine's reconstruction.
