Fall 2024 John Jay Fellow
Hometown: North Hampton, NH
College: Cairn University
Degree: B.S. in Psychology, Minor in Mathematics
Andrew Higgins is a 2024 graduate of Cairn University with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Mathematics. During his time at the University, Andrew grew interested in a variety of topics in line with those studied at the John Jay Institute, such as philosophy, history, and theology. The majority of this came from his time as a member, treasurer, and eventually President of a small club studying the writings of Saint Thomas Aquinas. This club was introduced to him by its founder Joshua Maier, a good friend and first RA in the Souder Housing Community on campus. Andrew grew to greatly appreciate the scholastic and theological work involved in running the club, and combined with his time leading the club felt that the goals of the John Jay Fellows program aligned well with his personal goals of the future.
Aside from the academic aspects, Andrew also greatly enjoys time in the outdoors due to his time in Boy Scouts which took him all the way to the rank of Eagle. Boy Scouts, and camping in general, has been something Andrew shared with his family and many friends growing up. To this day, the close relationship with his family has been incredibly important to Andrew, and he continues to cherish the time he is able to spend with them.
Andrew has worked as a state beach lifeguard in New Hampshire for the past three summers, enjoying the community, the physical challenge, and the importance of the work that the lifeguards must do each day. This time has strengthened Andrew mentally and physically, and given him a great appreciation for both the beauty and danger of God’s creation. Combined with the aforementioned love of camping, Andrew finds joy in all aspects of the outdoors, while also finding peace in academic and scholarly pursuits.
