Janell Douvier

Fall 2022 John Jay Fellow

Hometown: Wichita, KS
College: Purdue University
Degree: B.A., Business Administration and Management

Janell Douvier grew up in south-central Kansas, the youngest of six children in an athletic and extremely competitive family. She followed in her siblings’ footsteps by earning a division one, full ride athletic scholarship to Southern Illinois University where she played basketball and earned the role of team captain and served as a member of the student-athlete leadership council from 2018-2020. Due to covid and changing regulations she finished her senior year of college via Purdue University online while playing professional basketball in Europe. Despite those changes she graduated in May of 2022 making the dean’s honor roll both semesters.

In the summer of 2021, Janell had the opportunity to intern for the Governor’s office in South Dakota. During the internship she worked closely with deputy policy advisors and other members of Governor Noem’s staff and cabinet members. Her primary areas of focus were on Housing, legalizing marijuana legislation, as well as working with policy advisors to review federal budget allocation and process funding requests. During this time, she made connections with many of the states legislators and even helped campaign for local primary elections in South Dakota’s House, Senate, and local school board elections.

Janell is passionate about understanding the process for local policies and how it directly affects communities. As the daughter of a small business owner, she’s seen directly how federal regulations and policies can burden or benefit everyday Americans. From an early age she’s followed her parents and now siblings’ example of getting involved in local elections and movements that focus on protecting our Judeo-Christian values and the right to live out our faith as designed under the constitution. In her spare time, she enjoys drawing, reading, playing tennis, learning about healthy sustainable living, and gardening.
