Lauren Revay

Fall 2022 John Jay Fellow

Hometown: Fairfield, CT
College: University of Notre Dame, Catholic University of America
Degree: M.A., Theology, B.A., Philosophy Pre-Law

Lauren Revay graduated from the University of Notre Dame’s Echo Graduate Service Program where she received her Master of Arts in Theology. While in Echo, she served within the Catholic Church for two years working in the Office of Faith Formation at a parish in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy Pre-Law from The Catholic University of America where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude.

While studying abroad in Rome with the University Honors Program, Lauren had the privilege of taking “Philosophy of Art” taught by Dr. Dawson Vasquez. While not immediate, this course fundamentally changed the trajectory her life would take by allowing her to ask and search for answers to big questions such as: what is beauty and why does it matter? Her Master’s capstone project was entitled: “Man: Finding Our Way Back to God in and Through Experiencing the Beautiful” which sought to begin to answer this very question.

Her early career experience focused on tangibly serving others and encompassed a wide variety of populations. She first worked with adults with disabilities through the Kennedy Center, followed by befriending those living on the streets as a part of the mission of Christ in the City. Most recently, Lauren has invited others to find joy in serving others by leading mission trips for high school students through Catholic Heart Work Camp. She continues to seek to serve others and looks forward to doing so by utilizing her intellectual formation. Specifically, Lauren plans to develop her research within the disciplines of theology and philosophy in service to the common good more broadly. She is particularly interested in aesthetics, ethics, and virtue insofar as they relate to culture and society at large.

After her time at the John Jay Institute she will continue to put the two disciplines in service to the common good. In her free time, she enjoys painting, a cup of tea and good conversation, hiking, rock-climbing, and pole-vaulting when able.
